Deep Pools

The outflow from Stagecoach Reservoir enters a mysterious, dark canyon before disappearing behind steep, rocky cliffs. The fly-fishermen contrasted so beautifully and I was charmed by the peacefuness and beauty of the sport. Unfortunately, there was no place to park along the road, so I walked along its narrow edge on a very hot afternoon and sat precariously on my stool to design and sketch my painting. The heat was relentless and the location hopeless for painting in the afternoon, when the sunlight hit the cliff and water. So, I returned another day to paint at 6AM under a shade umbrella, in a safe place along a spur trail below my original sketching spot.
